Aldi has launched a UK-wide Sports Fund for grassroots clubs, bringing its funding schemes across England, Wales, and Scotland under one programme. Eligible clubs can apply for grants worth up to £3,000, though the exact amount depends on location.

The money isn’t restricted to football. It’s open to grassroots sports clubs of every kind — adult amateur teams included. Grants can go toward essential costs like new kits, equipment, coaching, training programmes, and even facility hire.

The Deadline You Need to Know

In England and Wales, applications opened on Monday 3 August 2026. They close at 11:59 pm on Monday 31 August 2026. That gives clubs a two-week window from today to get an application in.

Applying is genuinely simple. Clubs email sportsfund@aldi.co.uk with no more than 200 words covering three things: what makes the club great, how the funding would be used, and the difference it would make to the local community.

Scotland runs its own version of the scheme, the Aldi Scottish Sports Fund, now in its tenth year. Grants there go up to £3,000, with applications opening on a rolling basis by region throughout the year.

Why This Matters for Adult Grassroots Clubs

Adult Sunday league clubs rarely have the luxury of big sponsors. Kit gets worn thin. Balls go missing. Training equipment doesn’t get replaced until it genuinely has to be. A grant like this can cover exactly the kind of cost that otherwise falls on players’ own pockets or a struggling club treasury.

There’s also a nice extra incentive attached. Select “Gold” grant recipients get the chance to meet a Team GB or ParalympicsGB athlete, as part of Aldi’s wider sponsorship of both teams.

Since the Scottish version of this fund launched in 2016, it’s handed out more than £500,000 to over 650 clubs. The England and Wales expansion means a much larger pool of adult grassroots clubs now has access to funding that previously wasn’t available to them at all.
