Under their new management team of John Mackie and Terry Spillane, who led Walthamstow to promotion as Essex Senior League winners last season, FC Romania had to come back from being a Tom McElroy goal down to win.

The new-look hosts equalised through Mitchell May to make it 1-1 at the break, and then a second-half brace from Samuel Adetiba and an 88th minute Melos Ajvazi goal sealed a comfortable win at Theobalds Lane for the new joint bosses.

Fancied Berkhamsted were held to a 2-2 draw at the ASM Stadium by Thame United, after being 2-0 up.

JJ Lacey gave the Comrades a 20th-minute lead that Tommy Smith doubled 7 minutes later.

Crucially, Jack Gardner reduced the deficit just before the break.

And then Dan West earned his father Mark’s side a point with a 70th-minute equaliser, with Berko losing former Thame favourite Ryan Blake to a second yellow card in the 7th minute of stoppage time.

The evening’s other game at Hertingfordbury Park also ended a draw between Hertford Town and Hadley.

Jesse Lassen gave the hosts a 19th-minute lead that the visitors` eventually cancelled out in the 61st minute through Finley Aldridge.
