Following Saturday’s 5-0 defeat at Hednesford Town, Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club AFC Rushden & Diamonds have announced the departure of manager Andy Burgess.

The loss against a team for whom it was a first win of the season, pushed Diamonds to the foot of the table with just 5 points from 10 games, including 7 defeats.

A brief statement from the club read: “The Board of AFC Rushden & Diamonds can confirm that manager, Andy Burgess, has parted company with the club.

“The Board wish to put on record their gratitude to Andy for the professional manner in which he has conducted himself during his time at the Club and wish him the best of luck for the future.”

Burgess initially took over in February following the surprise departure of long-serving Andy Peaks to take over rivals Tamworth.

He was handed the role on a more permanent basis but things haven’t worked out for the former favourite of the `old` Rushden & Diamonds club.

During his playing career, in addition to playing for the likes of Luton Town, Mansfield Town and Oxford United, Burgess played 8 times for the England C team between 2007 and 2009, scoring 2 goals.

His managerial career included Sheffield Wednesday Women, Nottingham Forest Ladies and Leeds United Ladies as well as North West Counties League side Barnton and he has also been assistant manager at Corby Town, Stamford and Widnes, as well as a first-team coach at Mansfield.

More recently, Burgess has been first-team recruitment manager at ambitious Northern Premier League Premier Division side South Shields and is also an academy coach at Premier League giants Manchester City.

Burgess was only Diamonds` third manager since its formation in 2011, following the initial boss Mark Starmer and Andy Peaks.
