It’s been a busy few days for Nicky Ironton since taking over as manager of Pitching In Southern League Division One Central club Walthamstow.

George Ironton - back playing for dad!

George Ironton – back playing for dad!

He has been forced into a quick re-building job after being left with only a few players following the departure of the previous management team.

It was pretty obvious who his first signing would be – his son George!

The 26-year-old midfielder joins Stow from Southern Premier Division Central side Royston Town, where he had been since July 2022.

He had re-joined Welwyn Garden City in June 2019 having just missed out on promotion from the Spartan South Midlands League in 2018/19 with Tring Athletic.

He went back to the Citizens work for his father having previously been him at Arlesey Town and Ware.

He has also turned out for Cockfosters and Hitchin Town.

Like George Ironton, most of the new arrivals have played for the manager before.

Defender Caleb Steele, 23, joins from Spartan South Midlands League side London Colney.

He had joined Colney during the 2021/22 season after a short spell with Hadley.

He had signed for Kempston Rovers in August 2021 and made 24 appearances before leaving for Hadley.

He has experience at Step 4 level with league rivals Waltham Abbey and Welwyn Garden City and has also been with Essex Senior League outfit Ilford and Spartan South Midlands League side Stotfold.

Midfielder Jack Green, 25, signed for then-Southern Division One Central club Colney Heath in August 2021 from Southern Premier Central side Hitchin Town but made the journey back to Top Field in November 2021.

He had joined the Canaries from St Albans City in the summer of 2017.

He was previously with Sandridge Rovers, Dunstable Town and Harpenden Town and was on loan with Barton Rovers in 2014/15 whilst still on the Saints` books.

Jordan Watson is a 30-year-old forward who had re-joined rivals Welwyn Garden City in August 2021 from another league rival, Ware, and then re-joined the latter in the summer of 2022, having made the same journey in December 2019.

He originally joined Ware from Aveley in February 2018, although he had also played for local rivals Hertford Town as well as FC Broxbourne Borough, Redbridge, Hadley and Hoddesdon Town.

Defender Ryan Kirwan joins Stow from Isthmian League Premier Division side Enfield Town.

The 23-year-old signed for the Towners Enfield during 2021/22, quickly establishing himself both in the side, and as a fans’ favourite, with his energetic performances from the left.

Deployed primarily as a left-back or left wing-back, he’s also capable of playing in midfield or as a centre-half, and previously turned out for North Greenford United.

Tamas Amgbaduba was promoted from Welwyn Garden City`s under-23 side by Ironton.

He is an adaptable player who can play in defence, or more recently as a forward.

Formerly with Chalfont St Peter of the Isthmian South Central, he is also skipper of the Herts University side.

Midfielder David Salako arrives from Essex Senior League side Little Oakley.

The 24-year-old has spent the majority of his career to date in the Essex Senior League with the likes of Frenford, Stansted and Barkingside.
