We’ve met Before – Bognor Regis Town

[ad_1]

Bognor Regis Town (The Rocks) were formed in 1883 and the club became founding members of the West Sussex League in 1896, joining the Senior Division. They won the championship of this league for five successive years in the early 1920s, after which they joined the Brighton & Hove District League in 1926. Just one year later, however, they joined the Sussex County League where they were to remain until 1972 when they joined the Southern League.

In 1981 the club were transferred to Division One of the Isthmian League, and were promoted at the end of the 1981–82 season after finishing second. We played each other for the next eleven seasons with results being equally shared between the two clubs in that time. Our heaviest defeat came the 1985-86 season where we trounced 6-0 at Nyewood Lane. However, we got our revenge in 1992-93 where we won by the same scoreline at Bognor with Jimmy Bolton netting four times!

Bognor dropped out of the Isthmian Premier at the end of the 1992-93 and we only met each other in cup competitions (winning a Full Members Cup tie 3-2 in 1997-98 and a League Cup tie 2-0, after a 0-0 draw).

After re-joining the Premier Division in 2001-02 the Rocks generally had the upper hand and we played each other regularly until we were relegated at the end of 2013-14. A stand out performance in this period though being a 4-2 win at Nyewood Lane at the beginning of that relegation season.

Since we rejoined the Premier Division in 2018-19 we have played each other seven times, winning twice, drawing once and losing four. All the defeats came away from home but we did manage an impressive 2-0 win at Nyewood Lane early in the truncated 2019-20 season with first half goals from Jerry Amoo and Christie Pattisson. Our last meeting with Bognor at Colston Avenue came on the 7th December 2019 where a rare Kershaney Samuels goal was all that separated the teams. Last season Bognor did the double over us when we narrowly lost 1-0 to a Craig Robson goal on the half hour mark at Nyewood Lane and by the same score at Colston Avenue with Harvey Hughes scoring for the Rocks on 28 minutes.
