Old foes reunite for FA Cup clash

[ad_1]

Carshalton Athletic take their first step onto the 2022/23 Emirates FA Cup’s road to Wembley when they entertain VCD Athletic at Colston Avenue in the First Qualifying Round on Saturday 3rd September (3pm kick off).

The two sides last met in Carshalton’s Isthmian League South championship winning campaign in 2017/18. During that season, the Robins did the double over Saturday’s visitors, including a 7-0 thrashing at Colston Avenue in April 2018 in which Tommy Bradford was among the scorers.

Following the league reorganisation, VCD now play in the Isthmian League South East Division and currently lie 14th in the table with four points from four games. Current manager and former player Grant Basey is in his first season in charge at the club, having been interim manager at Cray Wanderers for part of last season. The club’s most recent match on Bank Holiday Monday saw them lose 1-0 to a late goal from current division leaders, Beckenham Town.

VCD have already played one game in the competition and reached this stage with an excellent 2-1 away win against Tooting and Mitcham in the Preliminary Round. The winner came in the 89th minute from Joe Tennent, after leading scorer Anthony Adesite had put them ahead in the first half.

Carshalton will be hoping that a good cup result can ignite their season after the disappointment of consecutive leagues losses over the Bank Holiday weekend to Haringey Borough and Kingstonian.
