Biggleswade FC moved up to second spot in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central on Wednesday night following a 1-0 win at FC Romania.
The Greens now hold the highest league position in their short, six-year history, although victory could and perhaps should have been more comfortable for Dave Northfield and Mark Inskip’s side.
What turned out to be the only goal of the game came after 25 minutes when a free-kick on the edge of the area was fired past Tommy Dixon-Hodge in the home goal by Tom Coles.
The visitors had several more opportunities to add to their lead, but some indifferent finishing and decent defending kept the scoreline to just a single goal.
Highworth Town, switched from the south section in the summer, achieved their first league win since August 13th when beating Thame United 1-0 at The Save On Tyres Stadium.
But home supporters had to wait until 5 minutes from time for the deadlock to be broken when Dan Grieve fired home.
