Man United’s Brazil Target Delays His Move, Spurs Refused Again for Van Hecke

The Window Is Open. The Deals Are Moving.

The summer transfer window officially opened on June 15 — and the news is already coming thick and fast.

Midfield targets getting World Cup call-ups. Centre-back bids are being knocked back for a second time. A manager demanding reinforcements before the first ball is kicked. Multiple clubs are chasing the same players.

Welcome to summer 2026 in the Premier League.

Here is everything you need to know from today’s transfer briefing.

🇧🇷 Man United’s Midfield Target Gets the Brazil Call-Up

The Story

Manchester United were closing in on the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson — and then the World Cup intervened.

Widespread reports had United agreeing a move with the Serie A club, with a deal expected to be completed before the end of June. That timeline may now shift significantly.

Ederson, 26, has been called up to Brazil’s World Cup squad as a late replacement for the injured Wesley. It is his first international involvement since earning his third cap in March 2025 — and his first World Cup appearance.

Why United Wants Him

United are looking to replace Casemiro, whose four-year spell at Old Trafford ends this summer. The Brazilian midfielder — a key figure in Michael Carrick’s revival run — departs as a fan favourite, but at 34, his time at the top level is winding down.

Ederson represents the long-term solution. A combative, technically excellent midfielder who won the Europa League with Atalanta in 2023-24 and has been one of Serie A’s best players in his position over the past two seasons.

The Complication

With the World Cup now in his calendar, Ederson will not be available for United’s pre-season schedule until late July at the earliest — potentially deep into August if Brazil progress through the knockout stages.

United already has 13 players at the World Cup. The prospect of a 14th arriving adds to the pre-season planning challenge Carrick and his staff face this summer.

The deal is still expected to happen. The timeline is just less certain.

What to Expect: Ederson joining United remains the most likely outcome. The question is when, not if.

🔵 Brighton Rejects Spurs’ Second Bid for Van Hecke

The Story

Brighton & Hove Albion have rejected a second bid from Tottenham Hotspur for centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke — and they did not take long to say no.

Brighton CEO Paul Barber confirmed publicly at the weekend that Spurs’ second offer had been turned down. Brighton’s valuation of the 26-year-old Dutch defender sits at around £70 million — and Tottenham have not come close to meeting it.

Why Spurs Want Him So Badly

Van Hecke is one of the most complete centre-backs in the Premier League. His reading of the game, his composure on the ball, and his ability to step out and engage in pressing situations make him ideal for the high-energy system Roberto De Zerbi is building at Spurs.

The key detail here is personal. According to Voetbal International, despite interest from Liverpool and other Premier League clubs, Van Hecke has decided he only wants to join Tottenham — specifically to reunite with De Zerbi, the manager who developed him at Brighton.

That loyalty to De Zerbi narrows Brighton’s options considerably. If Van Hecke does not want to go anywhere else, the Seagulls cannot simply wait for a higher offer from a rival club.

Where It Stands

Spurs have already agreed personal terms with Van Hecke on a five-year contract. The player wants to go. The manager wants him. The only problem is the fee.

Brighton will not sell below their valuation — and Barber’s public confirmation of the second rejection suggests they are comfortable being patient. A third bid, closer to the £70m mark, feels inevitable.

What to Expect: A third bid. An eventual agreement. It is a question of when Spurs meet Brighton’s price — not whether Van Hecke ends up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

🔵 Spurs Also Progressing on Savinho Deal

While the Van Hecke saga continues, Tottenham is making progress elsewhere.

Spurs are progressing with a deal to sign winger Savinho from Manchester City — a move they first attempted last summer before City blocked it. According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal is advancing, with the Brazilian winger reported to have already agreed on personal terms on a five-year contract.

Savinho primarily plays on the left but can also operate from the right — meaning he would compete with Mathys Tel and Dejan Kulusevski for a place in De Zerbi’s starting XI.

For a Spurs side that finished 17th last season and desperately needs quality additions, landing both Van Hecke and Savinho would represent exactly the kind of statement summer De Zerbi needs.

🔴 United is also searching for a Left-Back

The Ederson pursuit is not Manchester United’s only summer business.

United are stepping up their search for a left-back, with three options reportedly being tracked. Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall is the preferred candidate — but his £80 million valuation could restrict any move. Alejandro Balde of Barcelona is also being monitored.

The departure of Luke Shaw — whose injury troubles have severely limited his contribution over the past two seasons — has left a gap that Carrick is keen to address before the season starts.

Whether United can land Hall at that price, pivot to a cheaper alternative, or find a creative solution in the transfer market will be one of the summer’s key storylines.

🔴 Mateus Fernandes: Three Clubs in the Race

One of the most interesting emerging transfer battles of the summer involves former West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Following West Ham’s relegation, the Portuguese midfielder is expected to leave the London Stadium — and Real Madrid have now joined Arsenal and Manchester United in the race for his signature.

The 21-year-old impressed in his debut Premier League season despite the Hammers’ struggles. His technical quality, energy, and ability to operate across multiple midfield positions have attracted attention at the very top level of European football.

Three clubs. One player. A summer auction that is only just beginning.

🧤 Dean Henderson: Two Clubs Interested

Dean Henderson — who impressed during his time as Crystal Palace’s first-choice goalkeeper — has attracted interest from two Premier League clubs following the end of his contract.

Sky Sports reports that two top-flight sides are monitoring Henderson’s availability, though no formal bids have yet been confirmed. At 29, Henderson is in the prime years of a goalkeeping career that has never quite delivered on its early promise at the highest level.

A permanent Premier League move this summer could be the fresh start he needs.

🌍 World Cup Watch: Premier League Stars in Action

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is underway in the United States, Mexico, and Canada — and Premier League players have been making their presence felt from the very first round of fixtures.

A selection of the weekend’s highlights involving Premier League talent:

Player Club Country Result
Martin Odegaard Arsenal Norway Scored in a friendly
Leandro Trossard Arsenal Belgium Scored in a friendly
Bruno Fernandes Man United Portugal Scored in a friendly
Dan Ndoye Nottingham Forest Switzerland Scored in a friendly
Wilson Isidor Sunderland Haiti Scored in a friendly

One result of note: the United States were beaten 2-1 by Germany in a warm-up fixture, despite a spectacular long-range goal from the USA’s Tyler Adams — described as a worldie on social media. Kai Havertz and Leroy Sane scored for Germany.

The Briefing — What to Watch This Week

Here is what to follow closely over the coming days.

  • Ederson — Will the deal with United be confirmed before Brazil’s opening World Cup match? Or does the tournament push it to July?
  • Van Hecke — Will Spurs come back with a third bid? Brighton has set their price. It is Tottenham’s move.
  • Savinho — Romano says the deal is progressing. A formal announcement could come within days.
  • Mateus Fernandes — Which of Real Madrid, Arsenal, or United will make the first concrete offer?
  • Lewis Hall — United’s preferred left-back option. Is Newcastle’s £80m valuation a dealbreaker, or will United pay?

Final Thoughts: A Summer That Is Already Moving Fast

The 2026 summer transfer window only opened on June 15 — and already the stories are stacking up.

United is reshaping its midfield. Spurs are fighting for a player who only wants them. Arsenal is monitoring multiple positions. West Ham players are being divided up between Europe’s biggest clubs. And through all of it, the World Cup adds its own layer of complication to every transfer timeline.

Come August 22, when the 2026-27 Premier League season kicks off, the squad profiles of every top-flight club will look dramatically different from how they looked on May 24.

The summer has barely started. And it is already fascinating.
