Tamworth stretched their lead at the top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central table to six points after a 1-0 win against bottom-markers Hednesford Town on Tuesday night.
However, the game at the Race Stadium which eventually led to the Lambs` seventh successive league win, was far from being easy for Andy Peaks` side.
The first half saw a fairly even encounter in front of 668 and, in fact, it was visiting goalkeeper Jas Singh who made the best saves of the half from Todd Parker and Ryan Nesbitt.
A fine save at the other end from Tiernan Brooks prevented Kyle Finn from giving Tamworth the lead 10 minutes into the second half and Singh was in action again, tipping Ben Bailey’s effort over the bar.
But it looked like a goal was coming – and indeed it did after 74 minutes when, after Brooks had pulled off a fine save to deny Alex Collard, Dan Creaney fired the loose ball through a sea of legs and into the back of the net to give the Lambs the lead.
Hednesford fought back looking for a leveller, but the visitors hung on to claim another three points, although the result was a little harsh on the battling hosts.
