Premier League News – Saturday 30th January

Harry Kane:

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho yesterday confirmed that Harry Kane will be out for a number of weeks, after sustaining an injury to both ankles. Whilst not thought to be as serious as previous injuries the England international captain has sustained, it is still a spanner in the works. Especially as Spurs look to mount a charge for top 4 in the Premier League.

It is hoped he will be able to return within two weeks at the minimum. In the meantime manager Mourinho has implored his players to step-up, in particular Gareth Bale.

Speaking on the Welshman Mourinho said “Hopefully he can help us.”

Jesse Lingard:

Manchester United player Jesse Lingard has completed his loan deal across the country from Manchester to London, signing a 6-month contract with West Ham. It has been reported by The Athletic that West Ham will cover his full wages, and pay Manchester United one and a half million pounds. There is no option to buy in this deal.

The Englishman was yet to make a Premier League appearance this season but did score on the final day of the season last year.

This will be the reuniting of Lingard/David Moyes since their days at Manchester United. He will wear the number eleven shirt, and you can watch his first interview below.

Concussion Substitutes:

The Premier League has officially confirmed that concussion substitutions will be introduced from February 6th. Sides will each have two concussion substitutions they can use if necessary, alongside the three normally mandated.

The first game we will see this in action is when Aston Villa will host Everton.

These procedures will also be trialled in the FA Cup from the next round of fixtures.

Next manager to leave?

After Frank Lampard and Chelsea went their separate ways at the start of the week, the question is now in the air, who will be next?

Currently SkyBet reports that Steve Bruce is the favourite with odds of 4/5.

The Newcastle manager is the clear frontrunner to leave right now, this is no real surprise with his team without a win in their last eleven games in all competitions and Premier League survival possibly not on the cards.

Joel Matip:

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that they are in fact looking for a new centre-back.

This decision has come about after Joel Matip’s ankle injury has turned out to be particularly serious.

Klopp has said he will not be forced into signing anyone other than the right player. “You can imagine we think about everything. It’s about doing the right thing. We need to find the right player”.

The Premier League champions are also still missing fellow centre-backs Van Dijk and Gomez.

Transfer Rumours/News:

  • Marcos Rojo will leave Manchester United for Boca Juniors
  • Valencia are in advanced talks to sign Patrick Cutrone from Wolves according to Fabrizio Romano
