Former Manchester United star Memphis Depay has signed for Barcelona. The Netherlands international, who has spent the last four seasons at Lyon where he was club captain. Depay, who allowed his contract to expire will join former manager Ronald Koeman at the Nou Camp.
Depay will leave Lyon as their sixth-ranked all-time top goalscorer, and is currently starring in a Netherlands team who are yet to be beaten at Euro 2020. He joins as Barcelona’s fourth signing of the summer after both Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia joined from Manchester City, and Emerson will arrive from Real Betis.
Whilst Barca have succeeded in signing Depay, they did fail to secure the signature of his fellow countryman Georginio Wijnaldum, who instead will sign for Paris Saint Germain when his Liverpool contract expires on July 1st.
Depay shared some of his thoughts on signing, including saying “It’s a dream come true for me to join the biggest club in the world, with the greatest fans.”
