Juventus have exercised their buy option for midfielder Weston McKennie from Schalke. The American international will join on a permanent deal with his contract lasting till 2025.
The initial fee is reported to be eighteen and a half million euros, however, the fee could well rise based on player and competition bonuses.
A star in the making?
At just twenty-two years old McKennie has been amongst the best players at Juventus this season. Offering six-goal contributions and winning over three duels a game. McKennie has been deployed in a variety of positions and has been a bright spot in an otherwise dreary and overcast season in Turin.
With five years of top-flight football and, twenty-one senior international caps, McKennie already has bags of experience under his belt.
Four of those five seasons were as a regular in the Schalke team where he amounted seventy-five Bundesliga appearances.
The progress of McKennie at Juventus is best shown by how he has already equalled his goal tally from Germany in just twenty-two games in Turin.
What’s Next?
Juventus have had a mixed season so far. Currently sitting in third place in the Serie A, and are facing an uphill task against Porto in the Champions League after a first-leg loss.
Their next two sides will offer a chance to rectify both of these situations, however. First Juventus will face seventh-placed Lazio this Saturday in a tough league fixture, before the return leg against Porto this coming Tuesday.
McKennie’s old club Schalke are in turmoil, however, after firing their fourth manager of the season. Currently sitting bottom of the Bundesliga their season has been a mess. You can read more into this by clicking on the below article.
