Nicky Ironton has returned to one of his former clubs, Welwyn Garden City, to sign exciting young striker Brodie Carrington for his new side, Pitching In Southern League Division One Central Walthamstow.

Carrington burst onto the City scene as a teenager three years ago.

As a 17-year-old, Carrington made club history by becoming the first Welwyn Garden City player to score three hat-tricks in a week, netting three for the club’s first team, reserve side and youth line-up – all in the same seven days.

This feat and his outstanding form as a teenager striker, made a number of Football League clubs pursue him, with League Two neighbours Stevenage and their divisional rivals Colchester United, both inviting him to train with them.

At the same time, he also became City’s first contract professional of recent times.

But a series of long-standing injuries blighted his form, although he did have a spell on loan with Spartan South Midlands Leaguers London Colney in 2020/21.

Now back in training and fully fit, Carrington was sent back to the SSML Premier Division in July on a three-month loan deal with Baldock Town.
