Richie apologises after Newcastle bust-up

Newcastle winger Matt Richie has apologised following reports of a bust-up with manager Steve Bruce.

The Daily Mail claimed that Richie called his manager “a coward” during the dispute.

It is rumoured that Richie was angry that Bruce had blamed him for Wolves equaliser against Newcastle on Saturday.

Bruce claimed that Richie had failed to deliver tactical instructions to his team-mates quickly enough, after coming on as a substitute.

Bruce said: “Unfortunately Matty didn’t get the directions on quick enough, the instructions of how we were doing it [making the change]. We’ll have to concede that one and make sure we do our instructions from the sideline.”

It has been rumoured that Richie is unhappy at Newcastle.

Richie came close to departing Newcastle for Bournemouth, whom he left to join Newcastle in 2016.

He looked set to leave until the move fell through late in the January window.

Bruce commented that Richie was “frustrated” and would “need to get his head down until the end of the season.”

A training ground bust-up is the last thing Newcastle need as the sit three point above the relegation zone.

They travel to fellow strugglers West Brom on Sunday.
