Leiston moved into fourth place in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central table after beating Hitchin Town 3-0 at Top Field on Monday night.
The Canaries are in the middle of a poor run of form.
Indeed, apart from a 1-1 home draw with St Ives Town on Monday, September 26th, Mark Burke’s side have lost their last five games in league and cups all by a 3-0 scoreline!
After being knocked out of the Isuzu FA Trophy by league rivals Redditch United on Saturday, Hitchin were looking to bounce back to find a first league win since the end of August.
But they came up against a Leiston side who, in contrast, are in decent form, and had progressed in the Trophy at the weekend.
A fairly even first period finished goalless in front of a crowd of 326 but, a couple of minutes after the visitors had an effort cleared off the line, they broke the deadlock on the hour-mark when Finley Barnes fired into the corner of Charlie Horlock’s net.
Hitchin came close to levelling on 65 minutes when Finley Wilkinson’s strike came back off the crossbar.
But 10 minutes later, the Suffolk side doubled their lead when Ben Fowkes scored after a quick breakaway.
And it was game over just 4 minutes later when Will Davies pounced on a loose ball in the box after a goalmouth scramble to make it 3-0 and a familiar scoreline for Canaries` supporters!
