After getting back on track with a win in The Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round, Billericay Town will hope to carry that momentum into this game as the Blues welcome Hornchurch to New Lodge. Both teams have had contrasting starts to the Isthmian Premier League season with the visitors winning three and losing two, while Dan Brown’s side hope to pick up their second league win of the season in this game. Billericay Town’s comfortable 4-1 win over Leverstock Green should bring confidence into the squad as we prepare to take on one of the favourites for the title.
Last season, the Urchins finished in 4th place, however, they were unable to earn promotion to the Vanarama National League South as they lost to Cheshunt in the final of the play-offs. Mark Stimson’s side kicked off their season with an away defeat to Bognor Regis Town but they then won two consecutive games against Enfield Town and Hastings United. On Bank Holiday Monday, Hornchurch got back on track with a 2-1 win over Bishop’s Stortford following a 2-1 defeat to newly promoted Canvey Island. Stimson has been with the Urchins since 2018 and he guided them to FA Trophy glory in the 2020/21 season as Hornchurch beat Hereford 3-1 at Wembley Stadium.
This summer, Hornchurch have brought in former Billericay Town forward Jack Munns after a spell at New Lodge last season as well as experienced defender Kenny Clark after a loan spell at National League side Southend United last season.
The visitors play their home games at the Hornchurch Stadium which is also used as an athletics stadium. It can hold around 3,500 spectators and the Blues will be making the trip to East London in April.
This will be a very tough test for Brown’s team but following a win over Leverstock Green, the squad will be looking to get back on track in the league.
Hornchurch will hope to build on a 3-1 win over Ipswich Wanderers in the FA Cup last time out, but which side will come out on top on Saturday afternoon?
