Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South newcomers Bracknell Town have announced the surprise departure of highly successful manager Bobby Wilkinson.
Wilkinson was appointed as manager in December 2019 and led the club to the Isthmian South Central title in emphatic fashion last season.
A statement from the club reads: “On Thursday, we accepted the verbal resignation of first team manager Bobby Wilkinson. Bobby was going to take Saturday’s game; however, sadly events unfolded as they did on Thursday, and the game was rightly postponed.
“As a club, when we appointed Bobby in 2019, we had planned to be further along our journey at this stage. Two seasons ended due to the Covid pandemic has seen us only able one promotion in three years.
“In recognition of Bobby’s outstanding achievements last season and out of respect to his ambitions to manage at a higher level we have, subject to a legal agreement, accepted his resignation.
“The Board would like to thank him and his coaching team for their continued efforts and success.”
The former Hungerford Town and Wealdstone boss took over from Sam Lock at Larges Lane after the former Maidenhead United number two left in October 2019, less than five months after his appointment in May as the successor to Geoff Warner.
A two-time promotion winner at Hungerford, Wilkinson led Wealdstone in the Vanarama National League South play-offs before leaving the National League South club in May 2019.
Wilkinson leaves the Robins with three wins, two draws and just one defeat in their opening six games as a Step 3 club.
