With Christmas on the horizon, one of the most exciting times for football fans is right around the corner, the January transfer window! the chance for teams to strengthen, possibly for a late cup run, title challenge or stave off relegation, is always full of excitement and made up headlines, linking some of the worlds best players to your team.
Some of the silliest, most exciting and most shocking rumours are bunting around the internet right now, such as Christian Eriksen to West Ham, after falling out of favour with Antonio Conte at Inter. These sort of rumours, usually made up for clicks and reads by journalists, still get fans excited, but are usually baseless.

However, if a journalist has done enough research, or has a source inside a club. Some of the transfer rumours are sometimes made so well that clubs have already identified that player as a target, and the writer has decided that they would make a good fit for the club they are linking them to.
Recently, a headline linking Erling Haaland to Manchester City has been doing the rounds on twitter, but realistically every big team in the world wants the Golden boy winner at current. But, rumours linking players like Darwin Nunez from Benfica to the Citizens have much more potential to be based in facts and adequate research.

Then we have fan based rumours, where fans of a club would love to see a player at their club, so begin to link that player, as could be the case in a sensational move for Lionel Messi by PSG, which aided by interviews and the Cash-rich Parisians, has picked up momentum in recent weeks, and would see Messi link back up with Neymar, which excites all football fans.

Usually, the biggest deals are left until summer, but occasionally huge deals are struck in January, such as was the case with Phillipe Coutinho a couple of years ago. Clubs don’t usually spend big in winter, but perhaps we could see some major deals struck, with this year being so unpredictable.
