Welcome to a new weekly article, all around the stories and interesting things that happened in Sunday league this weekend.

Sunday league continues to grow into a more popular sport amidst the pandemic, as it is a possibility for spectators to watch live football. This has helped the sport at a grassroots level, and more and more Sunday league sides have followed in the footsteps of teams like Hashtag United and SE Dons, setting up social media and youtube channels.

Talking of SE Dons, they played in the cup this weekend, against Hatcham. The cup has changed format this year, starting off in a group stage format. The Dons are the current champions of the cup for two years running, and they will be hoping to regain their title this year. Their defence of their trophy started off perfectly with a 5-1 win.

Another Sunday league side who have a popular YouTube channel is Baiteze Squad, who played in a huge game at the top of the league, against London mavericks. Whoever won the game would go top, so it really was a clash of the titans in Sunday league. The game finished 2-0 to Baiteze seeing them take top spot.

Elsewhere in Sunday league, fans continue to attend games in droves, with even others at WDSportz attending fixtures this weekend, and I hope this trend continues. This is because grassroots football will need as much help as it can get, even after the pandemic has lessened its grip on everyday life.

So, if you have the chance this weekend, why not go and watch some Sunday league football? Surely the day out in the fresh air is better than paying the extortionate £15 pay-per-view cost of the premier league, whilst also supporting a local team and community.
