Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic has said that the club needs to ‘show character’ if they are to reverse their fortunes this season.

Pulisic made the comments after Chelsea’s 3-1 home defeat to Manchester City, their fifth defeat of the Premier League campaign.

Pulisic said: “We’re in a tough period. It’s going to happen to everyone at times and we’ve been in these situations ourselves before.

“We have a game next week where we need to start turning it around because we do need to start turning it around because we do need to start getting results quickly. We’ll watch this game back, look at it as a team and see what we can improve on. It’s not going to be easy but we need to show character now.”

The American added: “We have some games coming up where we need to turn it around quickly and start putting together a run of results.”

Chelsea have had an up and down season.

In their last 10 games in the Premier League, they have won only four games, drawing two and losing the other four.

This isn’t necessarily the form you would expect of a team that many felt could challenge for the title this year.

Additionally, they’re yet to beat any fellow members of the ‘big six’ this year. Following defeats to Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal, and draws to Manchester United and Tottenham.

The team have been criticised this year following £250 million worth of summer spending, which is yet the yield the desired results.

Marquee signing’s, such as German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, have yet to find their feet in England, with suggestions manager Frank Lampard could lose his job.

The Blues sit eight in the Premier League on 26 points after 17 games, and face a short visit to London rivals Fulham next time out in the league.
