Preview: England vs Poland

England face Poland at Wembley Stadium in what is the final game in this round of qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup

Team news

For England, Nick Pope looks set to start his third consecutive game as he is in line for a starting spot at this summers Euro’s.

However, they will be without Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford, who withdrew from the squad due to injury.

Poland will be without Captain and talisman Robert Lewandowski, who has suffered ligament damage in his right knee, which will rule him out for roughly 10 days.

Recent form

In their two qualifiers, England beat San Marino 5-0, before beating Albania 2-0 on Sunday night.

This result moved England’s unbeaten run to 23 games.

For Poland, last time out they beat Andorra 3-0 on Sunday, where Lewandowski scored twice. This followed a 3-3 draw with Hungary in a World Cup qualifier.

England will be the stronger of the two sides on paper, especially with Lewandowski injured.

However, Southgate could look to use this game to experiment with his side as the Euro’s draw closer.

England and Poland will both expect to finish top two in this qualifying pool, meaning this will be an important game in determining who finishes top of the group.

Poland will put up a tough fight, but England should ease past them.
