Out of the fire, into the Dripping Pan

After an opening day win in scorching heat at Colston Avenue against Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday, Carshalton Athletic face a tough first away game of the season at Lewes’ Dripping Pan ground on Tuesday 16th August (7.45pm kick off).

The Rooks have been one of many people’s selections for promotion this season after narrowly missing out on the play-offs last year. Having been in the play-off spots for most of the season, they fell away to finish seventh.

Despite the loss of key players from last season’s squad to higher level football, including Ollie Tanner (signed by Cardiff City), Michael Klass (joined Aldershot Town) and Taylor Maloney (joined Welling United), manager Tony Russell has brought in a number of high-quality replacements. These include new club captain Tom Champion, brought in from Woking, and Crawley Town loanee, Ronan Silva, who marked his debut with a goal in Lewes’ opening day 1-1 draw at Wingate and Finchley on Saturday.

Last season saw the Rooks do the double over Carshalton, with departed Klass claiming goals in both a 1-0 home victory for Lewes and a 2-1 win at Colston Avenue. Prior to last season’s loss though, the Dripping Pan had been a lucky ground for the Robins with four wins on the trot.
