Nuneaton Borough pulled level on points with Tamworth at the top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central table following a 2-1 win against Bedford Town at Liberty Way on Tuesday night.
In front of a crowd of 402, Jimmy Ginnelly’s men put aside their disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of league rivals Alvechurch to make it seven wins in ten league games.
They were ahead after 18 minutes with a goal from close range from Jaden Charles.
A similar effort from Charley Sanders pulled the Eagles back on level terms in the 25th minute to leave the sides all-square at the break.
Then on 56 minutes, Nuneaton re-took the lead with a fine strike from 20 yards from top scorer Matt Stenson.
And Boro held firm to win, leaving Gary Setchell’s Eagles in 18th spot, with three wins from their eleven matches.
St Ives Town, who made history last Saturday by making it through to the Fourth Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup for the first time, didn’t have any hangover as they won 3-2 at the Microlise New Manor Ground against Ilkeston Town in front of 442.
But the Saints left it very late after taking a 10th-minute lead through Jonny Edwards.
Chris O’Grady pulled the hosts back on level terms in the 4th minute of first-half injury-time.
Then on the hour-mark, Tyrone Baker was put through and he beat on-loan goalkeeper Ollie Battersby to restore the visitors` lead.
Joint boss Jamie Ward came off the bench to equalise in the 82nd minute.
However, in the 89th minute, the hosts were unable to clear the ball properly and it fell nicely for Johnny Herd to fire past Battersby from the edge of the box and win it for the Saints.
St Ives moved into sixth place in the table, while the Robins are 15th.
