Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa has claimed that ‘Neymar isn’t one of the best 30 players in Europe’, ruling out a potential move for the Brazilian.

Frexia, who will stand in Barcelona’s presidential election in January, has made it clear that, under his leadership, Neymar will not return to his former side.

The current Paris St Germain superstar, who was on Barcelona books from 2013 until 2017, is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world.

Freixa told Cadena SER: “Neymar, because of his performance, is not even among the 30 best players in Europe right now. If i were president, I would not sign him.”

He continued: “The most important thing about Barcelona is Barcelona itself. We do not depend on anyone.”

Since the 28-year old Brazilian’s record breaking £200 million pound transfer from Barcelona to PSG in 2017, there has been almost constant talk about a potential return for Neymar.

In his time in Catalonia, Neymar made 186 appearences, scoring 105 goals and assisting 76 times as he formed the MSN trio with fellow attackers Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

Neymar has previously claimed that he would like to leave France at some stage but he did not specify where his future would lay, if not at PSG.

Outgoing Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has been very keen to secure the return of Neymar to the Catalan giants, reportedly enlisting Lionel Messi, a man he has been at odds with recently, to help him.

Neymar had previously been on Barcelona’s rivals, Real Madrid’s shortlist but they were unable to turn their interest into anything more than that.

The Brazilian forward has an exceptional record at PSG, scoring 73 goals and assisting 45 more in 93 total games, winning three Ligue one titles, two Coupe de France, two Coupe de la Ligue and a Trophee des champions, as well as finishing runner up in the 2020 champions league final, losing to Bayern Munich.

However, as of late, talk of Neymar departing the Parc de Princes has died down.

With PSG looking to enter contract negotiations with Neymar, as well as team mate Kylian Mbappe, and the fact that Barcelona’s potential president has no desire to bring Neymar back to this club, it seems as though Neymar’s chances of a return to the Camp Nou are slim.
