Kevin Horlock’s Marketmen hosted Isthmian League Premier Division side Brightlingsea Regent at Bloomfields, and 308 braved the elements to see an entertaining encounter that finished goalless at the break, although the hosts had the slightly better of the play and almost broke the deadlock just before the whistle when Noah Collard’s effort struck the outside of the upright.

Eight minutes after the beak, Kyle Hammond’s free-kick came back off the post but only 3 minutes later, the Marketmen got their breakthrough when Jacob Lay broke between two Regent defenders before firing past Charlie Turner in the visiting goal.

As the weather worsened, home fans knew their team needed a second goal – and it eventually arrived 4 minutes into stoppage time when Luke Ingram was fouled in the area, and he dusted himself down before sending Turner the wrong way with the resulting penalty.
