Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is the bookies favourite to become the Premier Leagues first managerial causality of the season.
Lampard is currently a 4/5 favourite (Via SkyBet) to win the ‘sack race’.
Previously, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce was the favourite, with Newcastle struggling for form in the league.
Chelsea however, find themselves in a dire situation.
They have been wildly inconsistent in the league, once fancied as potential title challengers, Lampard’s men sit in eight place, nine points off the top of the league.
After falling to a 2-0 defeat to Leicester, Chelsea have lost five out of their previous eight matches.
Editor’s picks:
- Liverpool no longer interested in Alaba deal
- Flick implores Alaba to take responsibility amid contract stand-off
- Premier League and EFL reach agreement for £250m rescue package
- Diego Costa leaves Atletico Madrid by mutual consent
Post match, Lampard admitted: “I am worried. From the form we were in to get so quickly in to the form we’re in now, even with the Fulham win and some other wins in there, we should be better than losing five in eight.
“It’s a young team. They won’t be feeling nice. I’m not against the lads in the dressing room. They will have learned a lesson.”
Lampard took the Chelsea job in 2019, following one year at Championship side Derby County, were he took them to the play-off final.
Now in his third year with Chelsea, and after heavy summer spending, Lampard would be hoping to have experienced more success this season.
Additionally, with a traditionally ruthless owner in Roman Abramovich, how much time does Lampard have to turn Chelsea’s fortunes around?
