Carshalton Athletic will look to put the frustration of allowing Bognor to come back for a draw in midweek behind them when they face Westfield F.C. in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup in Woking on Saturday 17th September (3pm kick off).
This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams, with Westfield only having taken the step up to Step 4 in the non-league pyramid as recently as 2018 after winning the Combined Counties League. However, Westfield’s current top scorer, Nathaniel Mensah, does have recent experience of playing against the Robins, having been part of the Guildford City team that the Robins faced in last season’s Surrey Senior Cup.
Saturday’s hosts currently sit mid-table in the Isthmian League South Central division, having played only four league games due to cup involvements. Indeed, they’ve already played three games in the FA Cup to reach this stage, most recently beating Ashford United 4-2 in the 1st Qualifying Round to follow up wins over Punjab United and Eastbourne United.
Carshalton reached this stage with a comfortable 5-1 win at home to VCD Athletic in the last round.
Femi Akinwande made his club debut in that game and followed that up with an impressive performance and a goal in his first league outing against Bognor. But there will be doubts about his fitness, along with skipper Arthur Lee, after both took knocks and had to leave the pitch in midweek.
