Essex Senior League: Len Cordell Memorial Cup round-of-16 fixtures announced

Some interesting results in last week’s action in the Len Cordell Memorial Cup with games from all groups as the knockout round fixtures are set.

Starting off with a brilliant come back from Stansted who are second in the Senior Division as they beat Billericay Town u23’s. Billericay found themselves 2-0 up at the break before Stansted scored three second half goals to completely turn the game on its head.

Stansted and Billericay both advance from their groups to play in the round of 16. Stansted will take on West Essex who qualified from their group despite losing their final match to Barking Firsts. As for Billericay they will now play Athletic Newham in the next round. Newham had the most eye-catching result of the last weekends action with a 6-2 victory over Great Wakering Rovers.

DT FC advance to last 16

Three strong teams progressing from Group C with one of them being St Margaretsbury who beat DT FC to top the group and now have a home game against Clacton in order to reach the next round. DT FC finished third in the group with four points however still progress to play Redbridge who qualified from their group with a much needed 3-2 win over Woodford Town last weekend.

The third side coming out of Group C is Cockfosters who will hope to beat Barking in the next round in order to make the Quarter-Finals. None of the four sides from Group C won more than one game in a very tight group.

Despite being bottom of the Senior Division, Clapton FC have something to smile about as they too advance to the round of 16, they will travel away to Brimsdown in hope of an unlikely cup run.

The final two games that make up the round of 16 are Holland v Hackney and White Ensign v Barkingside. Barkingside progress despite a 2-0 loss to Clapton in their final group game with both goals coming from substitutes in the game.
