Essex Senior League – Len Cordell Memorial Cup latest

Plenty of goals and close games in last week’s Len Cordell Memorial Cup action. The second round of group games kicked off last Friday with two games being played.

West Essex edged Frenford thanks to a late goal from Callum Bloss in a Group D tie. In Group B, Redbridge beat Barkingside by two goals to one with goals either side of the break from Shaun Harris and Tony Martin.

Saturday 17th of April

Onto Saturday’s fixtures and a strong looking DT FC with a big win in Group A as they beat Hoddesdon Town 2-0 at home. DT FC took advantage of the other result in the group with Cockfosters drawing at home to St Margaretsbury. Cockfosters looked set to lose the game until Ryan Wade’s 88th minute equaliser saved the home side.

DT FC now top the group standings with four points with a win and a draw.

Another noticeable result, Stansted’s 4-2 loss at the hands of Holland. Stansted are currently second in the Senior division and are having a very strong season. Also in Group C, another game with goals as FC Clacton and Billericay Town u23’s drawing two apiece. All four goals came in the first half with both Sam Thompson and Gabriel Ipanga Mbambo scoring twice for their sides.  

Over in Group E, two very different games with one ending 0-0 between Brimsdown and Great Wakering Rovers. The other match was a 3-2 win for White Ensign away to Athletic Newham who despite a late Joel Appiah goal could not rescue even a point.

After Redbridge’s win on the Friday night in Group B, it was the turn of Clapton to post three points in the group standings. Clapton beat Woodford Town 2-0 at home and despite being bottom of the Essex Senior League’s Senior Division are having a more successful time in the Len Cordell Memorial Cup.
