Roy Keane: “Liverpool are bad champions”

Sky Sports pundit, Roy Keane, has branded Liverpool as “bad champions”.

Liverpool are in the midst of a poor run of form, leading them to be 27 points worse off than they were at this stage of their title winning season, 12 months ago.

Former Manchester United midfielder, Keane, has been quick to acknowledge this.

For Sky, he said: “We spoke before the game – they are making a lot of excuses. For me, they are bad champions, you could say that this is a one-off, it’s a freak season, it’s Corona. Just get on with it. You’re the champions. You’re Liverpool Football Club.

“Keep performing like that and it will be another 30-years before you win the title.”

Keane’s assessment of Liverpool came following the reds 4-1 home defeat to Manchester City, who top the Premier League table.

In response to Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, Keane commented: “I think Jurgen Klopp said maybe the goalkeepers feet were cold? That’s a new one. I know it was tongue-in-cheek a little bit, but its excuses after excuses. It just goes on and on.”

Keane’s scathing assessment of the defending champions came following their third successive home defeat, following their 68 game unbeaten run.

Keane has warned Liverpool are at risk on missing out on the top four, as their hopes of retaining the title seemingly dead and buried. Leading to Keane criticising the side even further.

The former United player continued: “I can’t figure this group out. Even in the game against Brighton in midweek, Brighton were comfortable. You can be beaten, but there is a way to be beaten. But I don’t see that.

“I think that they’ve believed their own hype of the last year or two. We spoke about there would be some sort of drop-off, but they are playing for a big club. It’s as if they won the league last year and they all believed the hype and got carried away. My mind-set when you won a league title was ‘can we do it again?’.

“I never got the impression from this group last year that they were asking what’s the next step for Liverpool. I never heard any of the players saying ‘we want to do it again’. That’s the key.

“Now they are talking about trying to get in the top four from winning the league last year.”
