With the season well underway, we have a good idea of where each Premier League team needs to strengthen. So who could each team aim for in January?

Arsenal: The Gunners have been very hit and miss so far this season, and seem to still be adapting to Arteta’s style of play. Following summer signings of Partey, Willian and Gabriel, a position that could still do with improvement is upfront. Aubameyang and Lacazette have both struggled for goals this season, so a striker who can score is a must. I think that Celtics Odsonne Edouard may be the man they need. The frenchman has been on fire in Scotland, and surely a big move is coming for him soon.

Aston Villa: Villa have looked a class above what they were last season. Watkins and Cash have both been excellent, and Barkley is beginning to look good in midfield. The position they need a new signing in is a back up centre half. My suggestion would be Fikayo Tomori, who is out of favour at Chelsea.

Brighton and Hove Albion: Whilst Brighton have been looking decent, they currently sit in 16th in the table. This is surprising, as they have looked quite good in the games I have seen. Therefore, a striker may be the best option for the Seagulls, and Rangers Alfredo Morelos may be a great option. He has a proven scoring record across the border, and Albion already have a few Colombians in the squad.

Burnley: Sean Dyche’s side have been poor this season, barely strengthening in the summer window. The Clarets need a few new signings if they want to stay in the league this season, but most importantly would be a creative midfielder. The role will be hard to fill, as Dyche is not seemingly fond of anything outside a 4-4-2. So as an all action but still creative midfielder, a possibility could be Yusuf Yazici from Lille. The Turk has been in fine form this season, but taking him away from Lille may be difficult, especially as the French side are in Europe this season.

Chelsea: Chelsea are maybe the only side that do not need a signing in January, and also the only side who perhaps could not afford one! After spending so much in summer, maybe another new signing is not what this Chelsea side needs.

Crystal Palace: Roy Hodgson has once again proven many wrong, as palace have not looked anywhere near as poor as they looked on paper at the start of the season. A possible new signing for the Eagles could be a truly dangerous striker, and maybe a risk on someone like Adam Armstrong from blackburn could pay off with the creativity in the current palace squad.

Everton: The Toffees have been great so far this season, but have really struggled with depth. That means they need a few capable back ups in several positions. a creative midfielder may be key, as rotation for James Rodriguez. A possible new signing could be Justin Kluivert from RB Leipzig, who may be a able deputy.

Fulham: To be blunt, Fulham need a goalscorer. Mitrovic is not Premier League quality, as proven this season, and he certainly isn’t capable of being a teams main source of goals. a possibility could be Josh Maja, who has experience in the English leagues with Sunderland.

Leeds: Bielsa’s side have been scoring very well this season, but defensively they are struggling. New signing Koch has looked error prone, but it will depend whether the Argentinian wants to stick or twist. Someone who could be perfect is Palomino the out of favour Atalanta defender. A fellow Argentinian, he is able to play in a 3 or a 4 at the back.

Leicester City: Leicester have looked good recently, so a January signing I would recommend is Patson Daka from Red Bull Salzburg. A fast young striker, he could learn from Jamie Vardy and serve as a back up for the rest of the year, if Leicesters talisman gets injured.

Liverpool: following recent injuries, Liverpool have no fit centre backs, and have needed one for a while, as either a back up or a regular starter. The centre back they have been linked with is Upamecano, and I can’t see why he wouldn’t be perfect for the reds.

Manchester City: On the blue side of Manchester, a striker is needed if they want to challenge for the title this season. Someone who can learn from Aguero and has a similar play style is Darwin Nunez from Benfica. The Uruguayan has been on fire this season, having only signed in summer. I see no reason he could not lead the line for the Citizens in the future.

Manchester United: On the other side of Manchester, the Red Devils are struggling this season. Whilst they will inevitably chase Sancho all window, but I cannot see him back in England this season. However, someone who may do well is a centre back. Koulibaly has been a long term target for the club and would be a great January signing.

Newcastle United: A January signing for the Magpies could be Watford’s Ismaila Sarr. The pace winger is also able to play up top, and offer something different to them. He was also relegated last year, so may want to be back in the Premier League soon.

Sheffield United: After a poor start, Sheffield United need improvements all over the pitch. That said, many of the players they have are unlikely to be replaced, so Bournemouth’s Josh King would be a decent acquisition. The Norwegian was relegated last season, so will be wanting to be back in the top flight soon.

Southampton: The Saints lack quality depth in the centre of the pitch. If James Ward-Prowse gets injured they will have no creative influence in midfield. Tom Davies would be a good signing to fill this creative gap in the squad.

Tottenham: Another side that needs a new centre half in January, the lack of great defenders at the club has lead to some of the poor results this season. Milan Skriniar would be great, and he didn’t play too many games under Antonio Conte at Inter last season so may be available cheaper than his quality would suggest.

West Brom: Following the new signing of Karlan Grant, West Brom need a backup attacking midfielder, or a winger. If both roles can be filled, an option is Todd Cantwell.

West Ham: So far this season, Michail Antonio has been the hammers star striker. However they need a new striker, as Antonio can’t carry the team all year. They may struggle with goals come the end of the season. Real Madrid’s Mariano could be a great Premier League striker with all the natural attributes to suit English football.

Wolverhampton: Wolves have been heavily linked to Renato Sanches in recent days, and he would be a great signing for their play style. The all-action midfielder can provide a contrast to Neves’ classy passing play.
