Welcome back to WD Sports’z brand new section, which is a daily roundup of all the news around football on a specific day. It won’t just be all the mainstream football news which is seen everyday, everywhere and we will fill you in on the latest non-league news as well (which is our passion and what we are all about).

Non-league news:

Notts County have completed their sixth signing of the summer after Sam Graham returned to the club on loan from Premier League side Sheffield United. The defender has joined initially on a deal that will run to January and will go straight into the squad for The Magpies game against Alfreton Town this weekend. Graham enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Meadown lane, but his campaign was cut short after rupturing his Achilles in training. Graham will be looking to impress yet again and will hope to establish himself as one of the first choice defenders at the club.

Barnet FC have announced their first signing of the summer, as new boss, Peter Beadles, welcomed experienced defender,  Ben Nugent, to his squad. Nugent has played for the likes of  Cardiff City, Brentford, Peterborough United, Gillingham and Stevenage, with his towering 6ft 5 inches height advantage, certainly due to be a key asset for Barnet this season.

New Wrexham manager, Dean Keates says his side are aiming for promotion back into the Football League next season. Kates’ side finished 13th in the National League last season, but he is determined this year will be different. The Reds will kick-off the 2020-21 National League season with a home match against Boreham Wood in early October.

19-year-old goakeeper, Harvey White has signed for Woking, following his contract expiring at Championship side, Watford. The keeper will provide excellent competition to for regular first-choice,  Craig Ross.

Macclesfield Town have secured the services of defender, Marvel Ekpiteta. The 25-year-old has journeyed around the non-league circuit, having played over 200 games in non-league football. He has been capped by Nigeria at Under-20 level and will add a vast wealth of experience to The Silkmen.

Other football news: 

Crystal Palace are closing in on the loan signing of Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian striker enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Eagles in 2018 and 26-year-old will be hoping to find his form ahead of the European Championships next year.

Newcastle have signed left-back, Jamal Lewis from Norwich City for a fee in the region of £15 million. The Magpies have bolstered Steve Bruce’s side heavily this window, brining in free agent Ryan Fraser and former Bournemouth striker, Callum Wilson for £20 million.

Abdoulaye Doucoure has signed for Everton on a three-year deal, with option of a further year. He arrives at Goodison Park following arrivals of James Rodriguez and Allan. Doucoure was desperate to leave Watford following their relegation to the Championship.

The PFA Player of the Year awards have been handed out. Kevin De Bruyne has been named the 2020 Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year following his impressive performances for Manchester City. Trent Alexander-Arnold picked up the award for the PFA Young Player of the Year, and Chelsea’s Bethany England was awarded with the Women’s award.
